What does “wrapped lines” mean?

Emails and text copied from PDFs often break every line at about 70 characters. Markdown would keep those breaks inside paragraphs. “Auto” joins them when most lines end mid-sentence at a similar length; choose “Join into paragraphs” to always join, or “Keep line breaks” for poems, addresses and lyrics.

Which bullet characters are recognised?

•, ◦, ▪, ‣, ●, ○, ■, □, –, —, *, -, + and the letter “o” that Word uses when you copy a bulleted list as text. Indentation decides how deeply an item is nested.

Will it change my words?

No. Only structure is added. Text that Markdown would misread at the start of a line — such as “1986.” (which would become a list) or “#1” followed by a space — is escaped so it still reads exactly as you wrote it.

Can it turn spreadsheet data into a table?

Yes. Rows copied from Excel or Google Sheets are tab-separated, and consecutive rows with the same number of columns become a Markdown table. Columns lined up with spaces work too. For whole workbooks, use Excel to Markdown.

How do I go the other way, from Markdown to plain text?

Use Markdown to Text, which removes the formatting characters.
