The EPUB is unzipped in your browser. META-INF/container.xml points to the package document, whose spine gives the reading order and whose metadata gives the title and author. Each chapter’s XHTML is cleaned (self-closing tags expanded, page markers and page numbers removed, links to other chapters turned into text, images resolved) and converted with the site’s HTML to Markdown engine; chapter headings move one level below the title, and untitled chapters take their name from the nav document or NCX.
